Switching from CSV Upload to Shopify Integration in Pricefy: What Happens to Your Existing Data?

Many Pricefy users start by uploading a CSV to test the platform, then later decide that connecting Shopify is the better long-term setup. A common question we hear is:

“If we connect Shopify now, will it override the products and competitor matches we’ve already added?”

Here’s what to expect in Pricefy.

CSV vs. Shopify Integration: What’s Different?

CSV Upload

  • Manual import (great for testing or partial catalogs)
  • Your catalog in Pricefy reflects what’s in the uploaded file

Shopify Integration

  • Pulls your catalog directly from Shopify
  • Reduces manual effort and keeps things aligned with your store

Important: Pricefy Identifies Products by SKU (Only)

In Pricefy, products are recognized only by SKU (not by Shopify product ID).

That means:

  • If the SKU matches, Pricefy can treat it as the same product during an import.
  • If the SKU doesn’t match, Pricefy will treat it as a different product.

What Happens When You Connect Shopify (or Run a New Import)

When you connect Shopify and run an import, the new import replaces the previous imported catalog in the Pricefy interface.

In practical terms:

  • The products from the earlier CSV import disappear from your active catalog view
  • Any work you did on that previous import (including manual competitor matches added under those items) will not carry over automatically unless the products are present again in the new import with the same SKU

Even if the previous import isn’t fully deleted from the database, it’s no longer the active import dataset you’re working from.

What This Means for Your Existing Manual Match Work

If your Shopify import includes the same products with the same SKUs

You’ll be in the best-case scenario:

  • Products reappear under the Shopify import
  • Your setup can remain consistent going forward

If SKUs differ (or some products aren’t imported from Shopify)

Then:

  • Those items won’t be recognized as the same products
  • Manual matches you created under the CSV import won’t automatically show up under the Shopify-imported items

Best Practice Before Switching to Shopify

To avoid losing work in your active catalog view:

  1. Make sure SKUs in Shopify are complete and consistent
  2. Align CSV SKUs with Shopify SKUs (where possible)
  3. Switch sooner rather than later if you only imported a partial CSV and you’re still in setup mode

Final Takeaway

Connecting Shopify (or doing a new import) replaces the previous import in Pricefy, so your earlier imported catalog disappears from the active view. Since Pricefy identifies products only by SKU, the cleanest transition happens when your Shopify import contains the same SKUs.
